VIREXX
(REX): Together with its subsidiary, AltaRex Medical Corp. it develops
novel therapeutics for cancer and
chronic viral infections based on three technology platforms, which include: Antibody-based
immunotherapy (AIT): Product from the AIT platform
includes OvaRex MAb, for late-stage ovarian cancer, is in Phase 3 clinical
trials. Targeted autothrombogenic
cancer therapy (T-ACT): Its product from the T-ACT platform is Occlusin 50 Injection,
which is in Phase 1 clinical trial for the treatment of solid liver tumors. T
Chimigen platform: Products include HepaVaxx B,
a therapeutic vaccine for chronic hepatitis B infection; and HepaVaxx C, a
therapeutic vaccine for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection.
Strategic alliance: With United Therapeutics
Corporation for the development and commercialization of OvaRex MAb and four
other monoclonal antibodies worldwide.
ViRexx Medical was co-founded by Antoine
A. Noujaim and Lorne J. Tyrrell in June 2001 under the name ViRexx Corporation.
Later, it changed its name to ViRexx Research, Inc. in October 2001; and to ViRexx
Medical Corp. in 2003. The company is headquartered in Edmonton, Canada.
